Q&A
When did you start teaching?
I've been a teacher since I was in my twenties, starting as a teacher of elementary education and expanding to other subjects such as science, esl, speaking, reading, comprehension and writing. I have been fortunate to have had many wonderful experiences in my teaching career, from teaching in traditional classrooms, to assemblies, to leading professional development workshops, and inspirational speeches to NEVER give up. I am a strong advocate for the power of education and I strive to use my work to help make a positive difference in the lives of students.
What have you learned in your journey?
Through my work, I have come to understand the power of reading and writing for the individual, the community, and the world. I believe that reading and writing are essential skills for success and I am passionate about helping others learn and appreciate these skills.
Do you like being a speaker to adults or children more?
I LOVE both. In my role as a speaker, I have shared my knowledge and experiences with educators and parents on how to best foster a love of reading and writing in their children. As an assembly presenter, I have presented assemblies to many schools and districts, sharing my passion and enthusiasm for reading and writing and inspiring students to explore the world of books and stories.
What makes you different?
Oh boy! Trick question. I truly enjoy what I do. I will stop and talk to anyone about creativity and learning. I'll also engage in a two-hour conversation about mermaids "possibly" existing too. I love anything imaginative. I believe it's an endless world of possibilities out there and together we can tap into it.
What do you do when you aren't working?
In my free time, I enjoy reading and writing, as well as traveling, exploring new cultures, and learning about different parts of the world. I also am a Toastmaster. I just did my first speaking competition- I won second place! I also have picked my guitar back up. Give me a year for any new music!
What is your biggest dream?
I've been a fan of Sesame Street since I was a baby. So, my biggest dream is to be on Sesame Street. People think its funny because I always ask, "Can you tell me how to get, how to get to Sesame Street?" I'm totally serious!
